Mary Oland Grannan Obituary

Mary (b. Macaulay) was born in West Saint John.  In 1952 with her husband, Paul Oland, they settled in East Riverside (now Rothesay) where she lived until 2017 before moving to Shannex Quistpamsis.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, brother Bennett Macaulay sister Rose Mellalieu, granddaughter Victoria Oland and husbands Paul Oland, Preben Quistgaard and James Grannan.

Surviving are her three sons John (Barbara) of Edmonton AB, Christopher of Saint John, Thomas of Nauwigewauk nieces Diane Gooderham and Gwyneth Koziol and nephew Reay Mellalieu.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Oland, Stephanie Oland, Nicholas Oland, Stefan Oland, Emily Oland, Kaitlyn Sullivan and six great grandchildren,

As a new bride she admitted that she, “couldn’t boil water”.  She became a skilled cook.  She also became a skilled seamstress and tailor making suits, dresses and other garments for herself and her family.  Gardening was her lifelong passion.  For many years she was a member of the Riverside Country Club golfing in the summer and curling in the winter.  Several family members and organizations greatly benefitted from her generosity.  She will be remembered for that generosity, her elegance and her love for life.

At Mary’s request there will not be a funeral.  Internment will be at her family plot in the Hampton Rural Cemetery.

Her family are thankful for the attention and care Shannex Quistpamsis provided for the last 9 years of her life.
