Mary Hatto Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jane Elizabeth (Marsh) Hatto at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, on January 14, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born in Saint John on December 10, 1943, to the late Eli John and Isabelle Marsh and was the loving fiancé for the last 10 years to Eric Adams.

Mary grew up in Saint John, graduating from Simonds High School.  She was a fun and outgoing woman who loved to laugh, loved to dance, loved to play BINGO and the VLT’s, and just generally, loved to have fun.  She was boisterous.  Mary was the kind of person who built lasting relationships with those she wanted in her life, and she still went out to dinners with her friend group that she’d had for over 50 years, including Maureen, Shirley, Annette and Myrna.  She liked to speak her mind, but always kindly.  She liked to go out for dinner because as the years went on, cooking just wasn’t her thing anymore.  She liked to travel and see different places and things. Mary was a very hard worker and very meticulous with everything she set her mind to.   She worked as a Unit Clerk at the Saint John Regional Hospital for many years, until she retired.  Liking to keep busy, she also worked with Killam Properties as a Property Manager at the same time.  After meeting Eric and realizing he was her soul mate, his family became her family.  Mary never let a good relationship fall by the wayside, so she remained incredibly close to her Mother-in-law, Helene, and her brother-in-law, Donald, and the many nieces and nephews for whom she loved.  Family was everything to her and she always made sure that they knew how much she loved them and valued them.  She went with their love in her heart.

In addition to fiancé, Eric, she is survived by her children, John Wayne, Cindy (John), Sherri “Lynn” (Stephen), Darren, Jocelyn and Rebecca; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Mort; and her sister, Joanne; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Courtney; her sister, Loretta; and her former spouse, Ralph Hatto.

Her family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Liberty Lane for not just the care and compassion shown to Mary during her time there, but the friendliness and kindness shown to her family as well.  We can’t express how grateful we are.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  **Updated service information**.  Mary's service will be held on Saturday ,June 11, 2022 at 11:00am at 71 Morrison Road, Saint John.  All are welcome to attend.  For those who wish, memorial donations in her memory to the Salvation Army, SPCA-Animal Rescue League or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.  To sign the guestbook or place an online condolence, please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com

Miss Me – But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone
It’s all part of the Master’s plan
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing Good deeds.
Miss me – but let me go
