It is with broken hearts the family of Mark Lawrence Brown announce his passing on March 30th, with his family by his side. Born on September 22nd, 1969, he was the beloved husband of Jennifer (nee Button) and the son of the late Carol Hatfield and Raymond Brown.
Besides his loving wife Jennifer, he leaves behind his daughter Amanda Brown and bonus daughters Kenzie Button and Kiara Button; grandchildren Jaxon, Jayce, and Laiklyn; sisters Terri-Lynn Sullivan (Gerard) and Jennifer Johnston; brothers Jason Johnston, Bruce Johnston (Sharon), and Joe Johnston; father-in-law Gary Button (Connie) and mother in law Susan Button; sister-in-laws Sara Button and Jackie Johnston; brother-in-law Michael Button; special aunts Nancy Brown (Gerry) and Sharon Fawcett (Eric); nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Mark worked for over twenty years for Sameday Courier becoming a familiar and friendly face to businesses around the city. His outgoing personality and big smile will be fondly remembered by his colleagues and customers. He was often seen doing his pickups and deliveries with his beloved dog Tanner who enjoyed these excursions almost as much as Mark did.
Growing up in Gondola Point, Mark developed a great love for the outdoors. Mark and his neighbourhood friends built tree houses, rode bikes to the local beach, and enjoyed fishing on the Kingston Peninsula. He loved camping trips with his family especially to the Silver Sands Campground in Cap-Pele, and never missed cheering on his favourite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Mark played baseball for many years with the Quispamsis Softball League where many new friends were met. Each summer Mark and Jennifer looked forward to Terrie and Joe’s Annual Washer Toss Tournament with good friends Stefanie and Lee. He enjoyed ATV rides with Gerard and said nothing tasted as good as the breakfast he cooked on an open fire this past January.
Mark was the family chef and every holiday or family event found him in the kitchen preparing a special meal. He loved researching new recipes and cooking them for Jennifer and the girls. He often shared recipes with family members and gave instructions on how to best make the meal. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved playing with each of them. He took pleasure in buying them special Christmas ornaments each year that can now be treasured forever.
Mark enjoyed working with Gary on his home renovations, which eventually led to a new home being built on the property for Mark and Jennifer. It was a project that took several years, but they moved into their new home in December, 2024 - a very happy time for them.
Mark’s cancer journey was one of bravery and resilience. He never let cancer control him, but rather he controlled it. He spent time with his family and friends sharing memories and laughter. He took every opportunity to express his love and appreciation to everyone who visited. During this time, Mark spent a lot of time at the Irving Nature Park and often sat with Terri-Lynn on the beach sipping a Tim Horton’s coffee and listening to the waves come ashore. Mark will be remembered for his sense of humour, the pranks he loved to play on his family, his story-telling that seemed to grow each time he told it, and most importantly, the great love and pride he had for Jennifer and his girls.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, as well as to Dr. Mackin and Dr Gray. The care and compassion they gave Mark and his family each and every day will never be forgotten.
He will be forever in our hearts.
