The passing of Marion Vivian (Queen) Mersereau of Hoyt, NB, wife of Ralph Mersereau (deceased), occurred on January 3, 2022. Marion was the oldest daughter of Len and Ruth (Francisco) Queen and was born on January 22, 1932 at Armstrong’s Corner (now Base Gagetown) NB. Marion and Ralph had three sons, Norman (deceased), Ronnie (Susan) Hoyt NB, Nathan (Michele) Birmingham MI, and two daughters, Kathy (Peter-deceased) Wright Saint John NB and Susanne (Galen) Evans Marietta GA. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Alanna (Brian) Cornish Hampton NB, Cindy Mersereau Hoyt NB, Peter (Dione) Mersereau Fredericton NB, Diana Evans Norcross GA, Justin (Beatrice) Evans Sandy Springs GA, Rachel Mersereau Detroit MI, and Allison (Gavin) Lincoln Detroit MI, as well as her great-grandchildren Brady and Emily and Lia. Marion had two sisters Phyllis (Fred) MacRae (both deceased) and Donna (Charlie-deceased) Ross, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Before her marriage to Ralph, Marion taught Grades 1 through 8 in a one-room schoolhouse at Armstrong’s Corner and at Inchby School in New Jerusalem. She was known for her patient and kind approach with everyone she met, her meticulous organizational skills, her great laugh and witty sense of humor. She was the bookkeeper for Ralph’s Transport Ltd., a company she and Ralph formed and operated for many years, while raising five children. Marion traveled to many places throughout the world with Ralph, but was most content at her home in Hoyt, enjoying being with family and friends, and researching genealogy. She attended Calvary Pentecostal Lighthouse where she taught Sunday School for many years. Marion was proud to be a member of the Base Gagetown Community History Association and was active in organizing the 50-year reunion of the expropriation of “over home” for the formation of Base Gagetown.
The family want to especially thank Marion’s caregivers Ann, Denise, Kim, Lynne, Stephanie, and Susan for the exemplary care given to her, as well as Dr. William (Jock) Corless and the Extra Mural Nurses.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) and to Sunbury Funeral Home, 5407 Route 101 Central Blissville, NB (368-2413). Visitation will be held at Calvary Pentecostal Light House Church 7 Boyne Road, Hoyt on Saturday April 30th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Marion's Life will be held on Sunday May 1st at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Blissville Baptist Cemetery.
