With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Marie Alice Fordham, born August 16, 1949, who left this world on August 19, 2025 at 4:00am (76 years old)
Marie was predeceased by the love of her life, her partner Murray Chestnut, with whom she shared countless memories and a bond that could never be broken. She is also predeceased by her parents, Robert and Marie Fordham and sister Margaret. She is survived by her sisters Susan, June and her brother Robert from the United Kingdom. She also leaves behind her Saint John family — sister-in-law Carol Godfrey and Carol’s sons, Scott and Grant Godfrey — who cared for her dearly and were a source of comfort and belonging throughout her later years.
Marie’s life was filled with quiet joys: she loved her cats, playing 649, never passed up a crime show, and found happiness in collecting purses and wallets. She treasured making Murray’s favorite doe boys, a small but tender reminder of their life together. Though she was private and often kept to herself, those fortunate enough to know Marie understood that when she loved, she did so with her whole heart — deeply, fiercely, and without reservation.
In her final days, Marie expressed her gratitude for the home care workers who supported her with compassion and for the care she received at Bobby’s Hospice, where she was surrounded by dignity and kindness.
Marie wished that anyone wishing to honor her memory would consider a donation to the Compassionate Grief Centre or to a charity of choice.
She leaves behind not just memories, but the reminder that even a quiet life can be filled with love, devotion, and strength.
