Maria Mary (Basque) McLaughlin

It is with sadness but a sense of peace that we announce the passing of Maria Mary (Basque) McLaughlin, who passed away on September 22, 2025, at Turnbull Nursing Home.  She was born in Newcastle, NB, on January 13, 1941, to the late Delina and Edmond Basque and was the spouse of the late Rheal McLaughlin.

Maria worked in many restaurants over the years, including Pier One, Grannan’s, and the House of Chan. When she was well, she would enjoy going to bingo or sitting on the deck listening to music and watching the deer.  

She leaves behind her 3 daughters, Jeannette McLaughlin, Kathy Vautour, Jeannine Reinhart, and son Dennis McLaughlin. Also, 12 grandchildren, Robin Arsenault, Stephanie Cameron, Melissa Boudreau, Tina Smith, Gordon Reinhart, Amanda Reinhart, Samantha Reinhart, Sabrina Reinhart, Austin Sabean, Luke McLaughlin, Ryan McLaughlin, and Abigail McLaughlin. She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren.   She was also survived by her two sisters, Claudette Basque who she talked to every day, and was always there to check on her. Also, leaving behind her sister Jemma Perry. 

Also, the most special person, Harold you are the best and we thank you for everything you've done. 

In addition to her parents and her husband, Rheal, she was predeceased by her son, Garry, and two daughters, Rosemary and Linda, as well as her sons-in-law, Kevin Vautour, Brian Vautour, and Gordon Reinhart. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Turnbull Nursing Home. Although her stay was short, they all made her time there extra special.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  In keeping with Maria’s wishes, no services will be held.  For those who wish, memorial donations in her memory to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation would be appreciated by her family.
