Margaret Wheelock Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Margaret Irene Wheelock at her home on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024.  Born on September 13th, 1927, in Saint John, she is the daughter of the late Grey and Viola (Hovey) Townsend. She met and married the love of her life Edgar, spending most of their 70 years of marriage in Grand Bay-Westfield raising their two daughters, Barbara and Betty. They enjoyed travelling together and taking cruises, even visiting their granddaughter in Oxford, England. For many years they could often be seen walking through Grand Bay, holding hands.

Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading, and was an avid gardener, growing both flowers and vegetables.  She had a profound and real relationship with Christ, which informed her kind and generous spirit. She showed deep generosity and quiet gestures of kindness to neighbours and friends and loved to invest time in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a long-serving member of Calvary Temple and was actively involved in the church’s uptown Food Pantry.  Although she will be greatly missed by all who knew her, she looked forward to being with her Saviour and seeing her beloved husband again.

Margaret is survived by her daughters Barbara Rogers (Clayton) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Betty Hayward of Saint John; grandchildren Laurie Hayward, Katie Dammerman (Brandon), Jill Keliher (Josh) and Andrew Rogers (Kelly); great-grandchildren Carly, Jack, Maggie, Helen, and Anna; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Along with her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband Edgar and brother Donald.

Arrangements are under the directions of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, April 1st from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.  Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to Grand Bay Baptist Church, Calvary Temple or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
