It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Margaret Elizabeth Guay announces her peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 9,2026, at the age of 92.
Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on February 21, 1934, Margaret was one of five children born to the late James and Elizabeth (Pitre) Kemp. As a young girl, she was raised in the home of the late Loretta and Harold Thibodeau of Bathurst, New Brunswick, alongside their family of ten children.
Margaret will be forever loved and deeply missed by her five children: Marlene Snodgrass (Gerry), Janet Flewelling (Allan), Dianne Beyea (John), Alan Guay (Colleen), and Maryann Kelly (Andrew). She also leaves behind her seven beloved grandchildren: Chrissy Snodgrass, Jossilynn Flewelling, Craig Kelly (Heather), Devan Kelly (Jessica), Emily Guay, Kale Guay (Stacey), and Bradley Beyea (Tiffany); as well as her nine treasured great-grandchildren: Addison, Avery, Nathan, Natalie, Myles, Lauren, Hunter, Hayden, and Lennox.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Elizabeth Steeves, Sharon Gallant, Ruth Ouellette, Sandra Springer, Gladys Knox, Joanne McLeod and Lynn Thibodeau; her brothers Glen Thibodeau, Ron Thibodeau, and Richard Thibodeau; chosen sister Brenda Clayton; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Margaret also held a special place in her heart for the Doyle and Verner families of the Saint John area, whom she considered part of her extended family.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Albert Guay; her brothers Gerry Kemp, James Kemp, and Arthur Thibodeau; and her sisters Judy Ellis and Millie Kingston.
Margaret and Albert built a beautiful life together, one centred on faith, family, and unconditional love. Their home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the wonderful aromas of home-cooked meals. Margaret especially loved preparing large family dinners for Christmas, birthdays, and countless gatherings that brought everyone together around her table.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret was the heart of her family. No matter how busy life became, she always found time for the people she loved. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family through her years as a foster parent, opening her home to many children.
Margaret and Albert were lifelong members of Stella Maris Parish, where they worshipped faithfully together every Sunday. Their shared faith was a cornerstone of their marriage and family life.
Margaret found great joy in nature and the outdoors. Together with Albert, she maintained a large vegetable garden that helped feed their family for many years. Summers were spent berry picking, enjoying time at the family camp, hunting alongside Albert, and fishing with family—often returning home with the biggest catch. Her and Albert enjoyed many years of camping throughout New Brunswick. She also loved playing bingo with family and friends and had a special touch when it came to good luck.
Margaret enjoyed being creative with knitting, sewing, crafting, and quilting. The beautiful quilts she lovingly created for her family remain treasured keepsakes. Music was another great love that she shared with Albert, and together they danced across many a dance floor at life’s celebrations, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Above all else, Margaret will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, joyful smile, sparkling eyes, and infectious laughter. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome, loved, and cared for. Her quiet strength, resilience, compassion, and deep love for her family leave a legacy that will continue to live on in all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr Poirier for his wonderful care over the years, and all the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the compassionate care provided to mom during her final days.
