It is with broken hearts that the family of Linda Marie Holmes announce her passing on November 7, 2025, at the Charlotte County Hospital. Born in Beaver Harbour, NB, on March 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Glenna (Hawkins) Leighton.
Linda worked many jobs over the years. Starting at the Harbour View hotel at a young age, the Collingwood care home and Fundy Hospital. Also helping her husband Norman with their Shell oil business. She was well known in later years for selling cars for Royal Pontiac in Sussex and was the top salesperson in Atlantic Canada.
Linda always took great pride in her lawn and gardens and loved tending her flowers and working in the yard. She loved music, especially Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, and attending concerts put on by her brother's Carson and Reid.
She spent most of her life doing the things she loved best, looking after her loved ones including her sister Janet, and baking delicious homemade bread.
Linda will be missed by her loving partner John Earle Bires; sons: Daniel (Darlene) Holmes of Caribou, BC, Kevin Holmes (Shelley Walling) of Bonny River NB, and Brian (Melanie) Holmes of Pennfield, NB; daughter: Janet (Richard) Cline of St. George, NB; grandchildren: Chris Cline (Tianna Benson), Brianna Holmes-Barry (Davis), and Jordan Holmes. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Norman Holmes, brother Edwin (the late Maria) Leighton, and sisters Arlene (Clarence) Johnston, and Janet Leighton.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home. In keeping with Linda’s wishes, no formal services will be held. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations to Charlotte County Cancer, the Heart & Stroke or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by family.
