It is with broken hearts that the family of Leslie Lee “Les” Stanwood announces his passing on May 22, 2026. Born in Sussex, NB, on October 26, 1957, he was the son of the late Orland and Anna (Brown) Clark and adopted by the late Howard and Ruby Stanwood.
Les grew up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, where life on the water started early for him. He began lobster fishing at just 12 years old and spent most of his working life doing what he knew and loved best. Along the way, he also worked with the Coast Guard in Yarmouth for a number of years, and later even ran his own computer business — proof that he could pretty much do anything he put his mind to.
When he wasn’t working, Les enjoyed the company of good friends and familiar places. Many days were happily spent at Tim Hortons chatting and laughing, especially with his best friend Corey. He was also incredibly proud of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Even after losing his eyesight, he held onto hope and patiently worked toward the day he might ride again.
More than anything, though, Les will be remembered for the kind of person he was. He was an absolute sweetheart with a heart of gold, someone who cared deeply for his family and loved being around the people closest to him. He had a special soft spot for his dog Lily, who brought him so much comfort and companionship. Les leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be missed by so many who loved him.
Les is survived by his step-mother: Betty Clark; sisters: Sheila Jones, Rose Cunningham, Dorothy Clark, Rita Stratton, Joanne (Jack) Whitmore, and Terry O’Hearn; adoptive brother: Billy Stanwood; chosen brother: Corey Nickerson; nieces and nephews: Carrie Lowe, and Timothy Cunningham; and great nieces and nephews: Grace Lowe, Alyssa Lowe, Colton Cunningham, and Ava Cunningham. Besides his parents and adoptive parents, Les was predeceased by his sisters: Carol Smallman, Glenna Kuske, and Laura Lester; brothers: Raymond Clark and Kevin Neves; brother-in-law: Boyd Guimond; nieces and nephews: Boyd Guimond Jr., Thomas Holly, Andrew Scott, Elizabeth Ann Guimond, and Tanya Cunningham; and great-nephew: Robert Joseph Lowe.
