Lawrence "Larry" Maloney Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Lawrence “Larry” Carl Maloney announce his sudden passing on Friday, January 10, 2026. While Larry’s passing leaves his family grieving, he died at peace with himself and his place in the world.

Left to mourn his loss are his children Christopher (Christine), Nichol (Chris), Brian, and Danielle (Sam), whom he loved as his own; his grandchildren Brandon, Sadie, Samara, CiCi, and Emma; along with his grandchildren at heart, Ryley, Alex, Amelia, and Bex; his siblings Maureen, Patricia, Barbara, Diane (the late Jerry), Bob (Dianne), Josie (Gary), Perry (Robyne), Michael (Sheila), and Sheila; as well as many extended family members and friends. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Bernice and Harold Maloney, his brothers John and Harry, and his sisters Bonnie and Mary.

Larry was a longtime employee of Ocean Steel and a valued member of Alternative Housing Inc. Yet what he was most proud of was the life changing decision he made on October 25, 2002, to take a chance on creating a new life for himself and for his family. Nearly 23 years ago, Larry began his second life when he chose sobriety, first for himself, then for his family, and though he could not have known it then, for his future, beloved grandchildren. He often said, “I have today,” a philosophy he lived by, one day at a time, for 8,479 days.

Larry was most proud of his grandchildren. They gave him renewed purpose and the opportunity to become the person we all grew with, loved, cherished, and will forever remember. Grampy Larry adored each of his grandchildren, connecting with them on their own level and making sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.

From Toonie Tuesdays and countless phone calls counting down “only ___ more sleeps until Grampy Larry arrives,” to his “hello, hellos” and goodbye hugs, as he would say, “see ya!”, to trips throughout Ontario, including MarineLand and Toronto, where he loved the Aquarium, and of course Ontario splash pads, where his smile was at its biggest; birthday calls and heartfelt voice messages, he never missed a single one; and cherished visits where some of his grandchildren explored his home in New Brunswick, the memories are countless, incredible, and unforgettable.

He spoiled them with trips, experiences, souvenirs, and memories, but most importantly, with his unconditional love and pride. Larry will always hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew him. His impact on those he loved, and on the world around him, will live on forever. He changed every life he touched for the better, and his legacy will continue through them.

“Larry,” “Dad,” “Grampy Larry,” “Uncle,” “Friend,” and “Brother,” and forever known to his daughter as “Hermie,” made his family so proud. Larry carried a quiet pride in the life he built, but nothing mattered more to him than his family.

“Love always” was how Larry ended every phone call and every card, spelled in true Larry fashion, “love all ways.” It was the promise he lived by and the legacy he leaves behind.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
