Kevin Wilson Obituary

It is with profound sadness the family of Kevin Wilson announce his death.

Kevin Wilson, also known as “Sarge”, was living his life to the fullest until his death on May 27, 2020. An avid doer of all things; storyteller with a smile and laugh larger than life, will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Kevin was the greatest father and grandfather. He loved his children and cherished his six grandchildren Faith, Dylan, Jensen, Kieran, Addison-Jane and Fox. Spending as much time as possible lovingly sharing his life with them. They meant the world to him.

Kevin served 27 years as a proud member of the Saint John Firefighters until his retirement in 2009 working in fire dispatch, operations and training. He was a member of the Saint John Firefighters Association Local 771 and received a 15 Year Provincial Pin; 20 Year Federal Service Medal and 25 Year Provincial Service Medal. With his father, brother Ron and firefighting brothers he hosted the Firefighters Annual Fishing Derby for decades on the Wilson property in Wickham.

Kevin proudly served 32 years with the Loyal Company of Artillery 3rd Field Regiment, the 31 Saint John Service Battalion and was a long serving member of the Warrant Officers and Sergeants Mess. Serving concurrently with his civilian occupation as Saint John Firefighter. He received the Special Service Medal for service in Germany and the Canadian Decoration with two Bars for long-time service in the Canadian Forces.

During his retirement he embarked on two new careers. In 2015 he became a commercial fisherman and flaunted that he was Captain of the St. John River. The love for fishing emanated from his uncle Arthur and father’s experience; which he took to a whole new level with his brother Ron. Then in 2017 he decided to become a part-time tandem truck driver for W & S General Contractors and was always willing to take on a new project.

Kevin was an avid outdoors man and hunting guide. Spending many hours with his friends, which included everyone he met, telling stories of the great adventures.

He was born in Saint John and the son of the late Cecil and Iris Wilson. He is survived by his life partner and wife Rose, their sons Jeremy (Janine) of Airdrie and Adam (Chelsea) of Elmsdale, brother Ron (Libby) of Saint John and sister Pamela (Gary) McKay of Wickham.

Internment will take place at St. Peter’s Church in Wickham; and, the celebration of Kevin’s life will be held when it is safe for friends and family to assemble. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or to the charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
