With heavy hearts, the family of Kenneth James Constantine announces his passing on February 17th at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Saint John on September 22, 1950, Ken was the beloved son of the late Stuart and Norah (Thomas) Constantine.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 54 years, Irene; his children Andrew (Jackie), Denise (Eric) and Jen (Jonathan); his brother Barry (Rose); his sisters Jean and Betty (Gerry); and his cherished grandchildren Jack, Avery, Georgia, Elliott, Carissa and Jennifer along with several great-grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by many extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Gordie and Ronald, and brother-in-law Peter, and nephews Stuart and Danny.
Ken began his career as a linesman and dedicated many years of service to SJ Energy. In that same vein he then became a certified electrician and a proud member of the IBEW for many years. When workplace injuries prevented him from doing the job he loved full time, he took the initiative to start anew. As a 50-year-old man, he graduated from St. Thomas University with Bachelor of Social Work. He worked mainly in child protection, revealing to everyone what those close to him already knew, his incredible capacity to care for others. Retirement didn’t last too long, as Ken returned to his roots as a linesman, travelling wherever needed to chase storms and restore power to communities in need. Throughout his careers, Ken was known for his strong work ethic and dedication, however his family was always his greatest priority.
Ken had the most generous spirit and a heart as big as his smile. He insisted on spoiling his grandchildren and even his adult children (including the furry ones) and would never take no for an answer. He was known for his quick wit, mad trivia skills, overcooked steak, love of jujubes and one could even say he loved a generous glass of rye! Though he often played a tough guy on the outside, we all knew better. He was nothing but love and mush on the inside.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, from 12:00 to 2:00pm, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00pm in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to gather in the reception hall for time of stories, memories and refreshments.
Heartfelt thanks to the healthcare teams who showed exceptional compassion to Ken in these last few years. The kindness of Dr. Scott Murray, Dr. Katelynn Comeau, Dr Jessica Hemmings and the entire palliative care staff will never be forgotten.
For those who wish to make donations in Ken’s memory, they may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation.
