Surrounded by her family and so much love, Kathleen “Kay” Helen (Hunt) Judge passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2025.
Born on March 11, 1928, Kay was the daughter of the late Chester and Catherine (Murphy) Hunt of Hampton, New Brunswick, and was lovingly raised by Alphonse and Annie Sainders. She attended St. Peter’s Girl’s School and St. Vincent’s High School before graduating from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She dedicated her career to caring for mothers and babies in Labour and Delivery and the nursery. On April 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, the late Thomas Hugh Judge, at St. Peter’s Church.
Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known to so many as “Nanny Judge.” She cherished summers at Chapel Grove and filled every holiday season with warmth, love, and tradition. Her Clarendon Street home became a gathering place, especially on Christmas Eve when she welcomed family and friends for her famous seafood chowder and a cup of cheer. Nanny will long be remembered for her homemade soups, pickles, jams, and her chocolate cake with boiled frosting. She loved to knit, play “gotcha last,” enjoy book after book, and never let a fresh cup of tea go to waste. Most of all, she delighted in time with her family, often slipping money to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a mischievous smile when their parents weren’t looking.
She filled her family’s hearts not only with food and laughter but also with the words they will forever carry: “Love ya much,” “nighty night, dear,” calling those close to her “Pet,” teasing with “her nibs/his nibs,” and signing every birthday card with “best love always, Nanny.”
Kay is survived by her children: Johann (Deane) Taylor, Mary Judge-Henderson, Susan (Dave) Murphy, Stephen (Heather) Judge, and Maureen (Dick) Hickey; her grandchildren: Deane, Jonathan (Paula), Kate, Tomalyn, Jim (Amanda), Brian, Ashley (John), Allie, Chas, Michael (Marcy), Colleen (John), Ellen (Chris), Mark, and Bobby; and her great-grandchildren: Thomas, Matthew, Hudson, Maria, Jacob, Anna, Allan, Makayla, Kylie, Evie, Chloe, Rory, Reese, Remi, Jack, Maggie, Caleb and a special great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by nephews Todd and Ronald and nieces Sandra and Patty.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Thomas, her son Peter Gerard Judge, grandson Thomas Hickey, sister Marie Colwell, brothers Ronnie and Eddie Hunt, special family members Harold Sainders and Dorothy Burchill, and her cherished kitty, Sam.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home for the tremendous care, love, and respect they gave Kay in her final days.
Kay’s love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all who knew her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm.
