THIS NEWFIE GIRL HAS GONE HOME
It is with heavy heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Judy Garland Murray at Bobby’s Hospice on Wednesday January 14, 2026.
Born on the far east coast of Newfoundland, on the beautiful Avalon, Judy was the only daughter of John/Margaret Taylor Garland of Bristol's Hope N.L., who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brother Selby of Hampton., N.B.
She is survived by two daughters. Laurie Mazerolle/Raymond(deceased) of Fredericton, N.B. and Leah/Lloyd Porter of Rowley, N.B. Two grandchildren, Jordan/Brittany, and Maggie., also two g grandchildren.
Judy is also survived by two amazing, loving and giving brothers and three sisters in law.
Rev. Canon Jim/Anne Garland of Toronto, Ont. Ret'd Platoon Chief and business owner Eric/Marlene Garland of Saint John, N.B., who lovingly saw her through her entire sickness, all the way, everyday, to whom she leaves her undying love and thanks.
One sister-in-law Sylvia of Hampton, N.B.
To her amazing nephew/niece Ralph/Paula Garland her thanks for providing accommodations on her many trips to Florida. U.S.A.and other gifts. To her wonderful nephew/niece Jeff/Louella Garland, who brought her brother down to see her, thank you.
Never to forget the gifts that came every Christmas from Newfoundland from her dear cousin Len/Sandy Davis. Thank you. She thanks her young friend Samantha Moriarity for years of great kindness. Thanks to her N.L. friend Christine Harris for gifts from her island.
Judy immigrated to Canada at a very young age with her family as her dad joined his family in N.B. Finding the change hard later her mom took her and her brother Jim back to N.L. for a summer vacation for which she was always thankful. Staying with her Taylor grandparents, getting to know them, and her cousins and friends. Time went fast, they wanted to stay, so her mother enrolled them in school in Bristol's Hope and the vacation lasted two years. Best years., with her dad visiting on every holiday. They then returned to N.B. to stay. Judy made a visit to N.L. in her twenties, only to find sad changes.
In youth she loved to skate at the old forum in the north end, and dances there. She loved riding her bike and did until she was 60.
A graduate of S.J.V.S. business, a retiree of S.J Schoolboard. Following retirement, she spent many years searching her family tree, being very successful in finding them all, back to the late 1600s when the first John Garland sailed into Bristol's Hope from England and settled there. The Garlands are long time inhabitants of N.L., are written about in history of the island, owning their own businesses, Justice of the Peace, Surrogates, master coopers, and do to this day. Her Garland grandfather was a cooper.
Judy was as proud of her family as she was of the amazing island she was born on.
