Judy Brodersen Obituary

"If you are reading this obituary, it means I have passed away. I was diagnosed on September 24, 2024, with a rare form of soft tissue sarcoma which was obviously quite aggressive; to be honest it caught me by surprise.

I had a happy life; I loved my family with all my heart; my marvellous husband and best friend, Blake and our two children, Garrett Brodersen (Wadzie Mtisi) and Etta Brodersen (Patrick Carolan) who have brought me great joy and of whom I am extremely proud. I have two gorgeous grandchildren Ailish and Oisin (Brodersen-Carolan) who were so much fun to be around and who I wished I had seen grow up, a sister, Caroline Erickson, who was game for any of my adventures and her family, plus Blake’s brothers Philip (Jayne) and Leif (Edith) and their families. I had a great many longtime friends, most notably Audrey Sullivan, Louise Ryan, and Maura Cook and my Sorority Sisters, plus new friends from my activities who felt like lifelong friends. I was predeceased by my parents Norval and Eva Kincade and my brother Allan Kincade, all of Saint John, N.B.

I lived an active life of hiking, exercising, line dancing, traveling, quilting, painting, photography, and gardening; I always liked to follow my interests. With Blake by my side we hiked trails, climbed gullies down to waterfalls, and saw all the lighthouses in N.B. We travelled to approximately 20 countries, most recently Iceland, Shetland, Orkney, and Amsterdam. I really did like exploring and travelling. I had a fulfilling teaching career, starting as a Methods and Resource teacher in Plaster Rock, moved to the William F Roberts Hospital School which I loved and finally with APSEA as a teacher of students who were deaf or hard of hearing, initially as a day class teacher and later as an Itinerant Teacher. Each career was fascinating and provided many learning opportunities!!

Blake and I also created and ran a children’s educational toy store, Lil Shop of Science, which Blake ran amazingly well! I was a lifelong volunteer, most recently with the KV Library, shelving books, and doing interesting notice boards, the Saint John Y’s Service Club helping with BBQs and Casinos, and as a simulated patient with Dalhousie Medical School.

As I write this, I am looking out at the beautiful display of Fall leaves in my backyard and thinking I have been blessed. I am also wondering who will get Blake to rake up all those leaves when I am not there to encourage him?"

Love to All,

Judy
