Joseph (Joe) Federson Flewelling

With heavy hearts, the family of Joseph Federson Flewelling announces his peaceful passing on July 29, 2025, at the age of 93, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born and raised in Oak Point, New Brunswick, on May 15, 1932, he was the cherished son of the late Federson and Edna (Graham) Flewelling.

Joseph was the devoted husband of the late Edna Hughes, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. We take comfort in knowing they are now reunited. Joe proudly served as a member of Local 443 at Lantic Sugar Refinery, he leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Joe will be deeply missed by his children: Wayne (Debbie), Allan (Janet), Bruce (Kim), Peter (Marg), Ross (Tammy), Wanda Cyr (Raymond), and Jo-Anne Hovey (Arthur). Joseph was a cherished grandfather to 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Gwen Flewelling and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife Edna, Joe was predeceased by his infant son Paul; grandson Michael; infant granddaughter Amanda Cyr; brothers Robinson (Kitty) and Guy; sister Iona McCutchen; stepsisters Marjorie Clark and Agnes Monahan; and nephews Frederick McCutcheon and Gordon Flewelling.

Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate staff at Chateau Champlain, who truly became like family during Dad’s time there. We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Emily Love and the nurses of 5CN for the exceptional care and support shown to both Dad and our family throughout his final days.

Joe’s quiet strength, gentle spirit, and deep love for his family will remain in our hearts always.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424), with visitation on Thursday, July 31st from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM. The funeral service will be held from the Fundy Chapel on Friday, August 1st at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.
