It is with appreciation of a life well-lived and gratitude for many years of memories, that the family of Joseph Steele, husband of Elva (Thompson) Steele, announces his peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 1, 2022. Born in Saint John on February 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (McHugh) Steele.
Joe worked his early years for the school board driving school bus and as a mechanic. In 1975 he and his son started Steele Trucking Ltd. and it is now a Third Generation Trucking Company, taken over by his grandsons.
Joe enjoyed his summers "in the hills" Barnesville where he spent time cutting trees and milling logs.
Besides his wife of 70 years, Elva, Joseph is survived by his children: Kevin (Joan) Steele, and Debbie Steele; grandchildren: Vicky-Jo (Jeff) Porter, Jeff (Ashley) Steele, and Jared (Emily) Steele; great grandchildren Ledger, Tucker, Jaxon, Nash, and Aidan; brother: John Steele; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary, as well as his three brothers Charles, David, and Bobby.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (646-2424) there will be visitation on Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 2 PM – 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, Monday, December 5, 2022, in St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Rd., at 1 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Community Autism Centre Inc or a charity of the donor’s choice.
