Joseph Hannah Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Michael Hannah, which occurred on Friday September 23, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born in Saint John, NB on April 5, 1935, he was a son of the late Leo and Edna (McCann) Hannah.

“Joe” enjoyed raising his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He graduated from NBCC Moncton as an automotive mechanic in 1969.  He took great pride in looking after whatever vehicle he owned.  With his wife and some help from a neighbour who was a carpenter, he built the family home on Greenwood Lane. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors.  He worked hard his whole life at various jobs, but greatly enjoyed his time with the City of Saint John, from where he retired.  He enjoyed travelling with his family on trips to Alberta, British Columbia, PEI, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine and camping at various campgrounds in NB and PEI.  He loved to cool off at the lake which he did up until this summer. He enjoyed skating at the local rinks with the seniors and bicycling with his wife.  He fulfilled his dream of getting his motorcycle licence and buying a motorcycle at the age of 75 and we were all so proud of him for that, especially our mother.  He loved touring back roads around Sussex, St. Martins and Gagetown up until last fall.  He enjoyed spending time at the mall and Loch Lomond Tim Hortons with his “Tim’s friends”.

Joseph is survived by his children Eileen Hannah (Jamie Miller) of Saint John, Deborah Hannah-Bertin (Glenn Bertin) of Grove Hill, Theresa Hughes (Sundar Singh) of Saint John, Michael Hannah (Yasuhiro Saito “Yacchan”) of Vancouver BC, Joanne Stackhouse (Greg) of Grand Manan, sister Patsy Hannah of Saint John, brother-in-law Philip Chipman (Linda) of Darlings Island, son-in-law Danny Hughes, 14 grandchildren: Tim (Alexis), Michelle (Mitchell), Brittany (AJ), Jordan, Carissa (Devon), Eric, Corey, Connor, Logan, Sean, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Julianne and Jared; 7 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Danica, Mac, Fenwick, Harlin, Cecilia and Lilah and baby Richardson (due March 2023); many nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Eileen, his sisters Leona Hannah and Florence McLaughlin, and brother James Hannah.  Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd, Saint John NB (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday September 29th from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Rd, on Friday September 30th at noon. Interment to follow at St. Barnabas Cemetery, Barnesville.  For those who wish, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to the NB Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB or the CNIB Foundation.

Many thanks to all for the kindness you have shown in your thoughts and prayers and by your presence here.
