It is with profound sadness that the family of John William MacDonald announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 15 2023. John was born in Saint John on April 8, 1946 to the late Anne (King) and John A. MacDonald. John was a lineman for NB Power for 25 years before retiring and then returning to work for K-Line Construction. John lit up every room he entered with his gentle kindness and humour and fed everyone that walked in his door. If you weren’t hungry you had to at least sit down and have a beer with him. He loved his wife Marg and his family with all his heart and spent immeasurable hours helping his kids with all their household projects. He loved to spend time outdoors gardening, tinkering in his garage, and of course driving around on his tractor.
John was predeceased by his wife Margaret Anne (Goguen) MacDonald. He is survived by his sons John (Jay) MacDonald (Mary Jo Murphy), Jeffrey MacDonald (Kim Brewer), and his daughter Megan MacDonald (Darci Northrup) all of Saint John; grandchildren Kirsten (Zack), Jordan (Haley), Alex, Emily, Kelsie, Jack, Kristopher, Ciaran, and Clancy; great grandchildren Mylah, Lainey, and Matilda; brother George (Jane) of Carman, MB, sisters Sheila of Saint John, and Anne (Glenn) Griffin of Saint John; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, with visitation on Sunday, March 19th, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00. The memorial service will be held in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 20th at 12:00 followed by a reception.
