John Wilkins Obituary

The end of an era… It is with grateful and full hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Wilkins, who brought warmth, humor, and quiet strength to all who knew him. Born February 7, 1936, and passing on November 8, 2025, John lived a life rooted in love of family, loyalty to friends and dedication to simple joys.

John was predeceased by his parents George and Ethel Wilkins, brother Donald Wilkins and his loving wife of 67 years, Connie. John is survived by his brother George Wilkins; four children Jack Wilkins (Alanna), Sherry Gionet (Gerard), Wendy Gaudet (Paul), and Heather Keenan (Donald). He was a proud and loving PaPa to Stephen Wilkins (Corinna), Alyssa Gaudet-Stephen (Jason), Stephanie Wilkins (Mike), Jaimee Gaudet-Cuesta (Bobby), Kaitlyn Gionet-Edgar (Andrew), Jonathan Keenan (Morgan), Michael Keenan, Haley Keenan (Shelby). His legacy continues in his five great grandchildren, known to them as PaPa 2; Wesley Edgar, Charlie Cuesta, Andi Cuesta, Liam Stephen and Alyson Stephen. He will also be fondly remembered by several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

John was self-employed for many years as a sign painter, proudly operating Wilkins Signs. His steady hand and artistic touch left a mark on countless local business and community spaces. He was proud to have his son join then eventually take over the business. More than his craft, though, it was his good nature that people remembered most. John had a “happy go lucky” spirit, always ready with a smile, a chat or helping hand. He was the kind of neighbour that showed up without being asked and the kind of friend that stayed long after the work was done.

In his later years, John found community and genuine friendship among his special neighbours at Rotary court, whose companionship, kindness, and laughter made his days warm and full.

John, even in his passing continues to give…he has donated his body to science, being accepted at the University of Dalhousie for furthering their research on the human body.
