John Phillip Rooney III

It is with broken hearts the family of John Phillip Rooney III announce his passing on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  John was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Spellman) and was the much-loved father to John (Shauna) and Joe (Kat), cherished Gramps to Claire Olivia, Isabella and Alyssa (Kyle) and great grandpa to Carter.  He will be dearly missed by his sister Deb (Allan) of Albert County and his brother Patrick.  John is predeceased by his parents John and Theresa and his two nephews Scott and Mike Spellman, whom John loved much like his own sons.  His loss will be deeply felt by the many other family members and friends whose lives he touched along the way.  John, we will miss you.   

John followed in his fathers and grandfathers’ footsteps and worked for over 25 years at Saint John Ship Building as an Operator until its closing.  First and foremost, John was a family man, always placing the needs and dreams of his family first.  He enjoyed the time spent when everyone was together whether it was camping, trips to the beach and in the winter watching his boys at the hockey rink.  Those were cherished memories for him and for the loved ones he leaves behind.   

Many thanks to Dr. Love and the wonderful nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for all their care and support through this most difficult time. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  In keeping with John's wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.  Those wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society.
