John Phillips Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Albert Phillips announce his passing on Thursday December 10, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 5, 1948 he was the son of Dorothy (Speight) and the late Jack Phillips. Johnny worked for Kingshurst Dairies, the Ideal Store, Kimani Construction alongside his brother, and finally Armour Transport, retiring in 2008. In his younger years, Johnny was a true athlete, excelling at baseball and hockey on many championship teams. He coached a girl’s softball team to 6 championship wins, including 2 eastern Canadian and 1 senior. He was affectionately known as Mr. Christmas and truly enjoyed the holiday season. He loved decorating his home and to Johnny, there was no such thing as too many Christmas lights.

He is survived by his mother Dorothy; his loving wife of 20 years, Helen (Cullen) Phillips; stepdaughters Angela (Kelvin) Johnston and Melissa Whittaker; brothers David, Terry (Brenda), Kim (Carm), Doug (Bonnie) and Stephen (Gabe); sister Cathy Phillips; grandchildren Laila, Chandler and Presley Johnston and Timothy Cullen; several cousins, nieces and nephews and his feline companion Gabby.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Carol Phillips, niece Tasha Boyce and nephews Douglas Phillips and David Scott Phillips.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Due to the current pandemic, a Celebration of his Life will be held for invited guests only. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be available to view on Wednesday December 16th at 11 am through the following link https://www.oneroomstreaming.com/view/authorise.php?k=160772343089986.  Interment will take place in Hardings Point Cemetery.
