It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John Joseph Garnett at home on August 8, 2022. He was born in Saint John on October 11, 1968, to the late Norman and Doris (Babineau) Garnett.
John worked as an upholsterer for many years and excelled at the skill. He was a strong willed and stubborn individual with a heart of gold. He would give you the clothes off of his back if you needed them, give you his possessions if you didn’t have something, and was just an all around kind man. He liked to laugh and be with his family and was just an altogether lovable man. Mental health and addictions issues are not often highlighted but it needs to be said that John struggled for so many years with an undiagnosed mental illness and developed an addiction to pain medication. He tried so hard to fix himself but sadly, it wasn’t enough. He suffered but at least he is not suffering anymore. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him and understood him and did their best to be there for him.
He is survived by his daughter, Malissa (Krista) Garnett; his son, Ryan Goguen; two grandchildren, Hunter and Lyla; his brother, Norman (Krista); sisters, Tammy (Stephen) and Patricia; his spouse, Jeannette (Thibodeau) Garnett; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step father, who was a large presence in his life, Stephen McGrath.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will take place on Friday from 4-8pm. A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 10am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, his family ask that you make donations in his memory to Canadian Mental Health Association, Ridgewood Addictions Services or to the charity of your choosing.
