It is with great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. John Douglas Cook which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, August 11, 2018. He was born August 13th, 1945 to the late Douglas and Irene Cook McHugh.
John served in the Canadian Army with the (Queens Own Rifles of Canada), based at Victoria, B.C, between 1964-1967. He went to Cypress as a member of NATO. After his time in the military, John returned to Saint John and began a career as a Marine Electrician at the ship yard, where he was a member of 2282 Marine Electricians until his retirement.
John was a long-time member of the Jarvis Bay Legion Branch 53, where he loved to socialize, play crib and shoot pool. In his youth, John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In later years, he loved to watch old movies and “Murder She Wrote” re-runs. He also liked to listen to old country music, Johnny Cash was his favorite.
John will be dearly missed by his cherished son Murray Williams aka “The Boy” and his wife Tracy, sisters; Dorothy Rowe (Gordon), Jean (Wayne) Moore, Patsy Kaye, Mary Cook and Theresa Wilcox (John), brothers; James “Jimmy” (Algerica) Cook of Alberta, Edward “Butch” (Elizabeth) Cook, Warren Cook and Thomas Cook.
John also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Percy “Junior" Cook, niece Judy and nephew Troy, as well as, long time, special friend Marion Williams.
John will be resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday, August 16th 2-4 and 6-8 PM, a Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at 7PM. Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 AM from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
