John Frederick Clifford

Quite unexpectedly, John F. Clifford died at home in Saint John, on May 7th, 2020, one day after reaching his 89th birthday.  He was born in Saint John to the late Millard and Florence (Dunham) Clifford on May 6, 1931. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Stephenson); sons, Brent (Margaret) and Kenneth (Elaine); 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his sister, Anne (Don) Cameron and his brother, Bruce (Odette), as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Dawn and his brothers, George and Brian.

John was educated in local schools and graduated from Saint John High School.  He had a long career in the business sector including banks, insurance companies, Irving enterprises and retired from Hayward & Warwick.  He was active in the YMCA, serving as President of the Y’s Men’s Service Club and headed up the STEP and YEEP programs of International School Student Exchanges.  His family hosted many students from Europe and South America.  John enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and in particular, raising and selling exotic pets, tropical fish and birds.  At home he planted beautiful gardens of flowers, shrubs and trees. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic regulations, a family only service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 10am.  Extended family and friends are invited to log into https://www.oneroomstreaming.com/view/authorise.php?k=158922106158758 at 9:30am  for a livestreamed brief visitation session followed by the funeral service.  For those who wish, donations in his memory to the Y’s Men’s Service Club, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
