Joan Mary Simmons

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Mary Simmons, loving wife of 67 years to the late Donald Simmons, announce her passing on Monday March 22, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Chatham, NB on the 18th of January, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Osborne and Eva (Deredin) Estey. Joan worked at Levine’s Dept. store in Fredericton. She was a long-time volunteer at Rocmaura Nursing Home; she enjoyed scratching bingo tickets and loved playing cards. Joan’s true passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Paul (Paula) and Brian (Barb); daughters Donna McNeill and Debbie Searle; daughter-in-law Shelly Simmons; brother Ben (Molly) Estey; sister Agnes Todoschuk; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her beloved pet Smokey the cat.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Louis, Ralph and Fred Estey.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home on Friday March 26, 2021 from 6-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saints Joachim & Ann Parish (135 Simpson Drive) on Saturday March 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. Those unable to attend the service are invited to watch online here at https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1616885335107957. Please call 646-2424 to RSVP.
