With heavy hearts, and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Joan Paige announces her passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 1st, 2021. Joan was born in Ottawa on September 17, 1930 ; a daughter of the late John and Willow (Armstrong) Schofield, and the loving wife of Alton Paige. Her family was everything to her; she was the matriarch of her family, and children were a big part of her life. As well as having her own children, Joan was a proud foster parent. She was known for her great sense of humour. Joan and Alton were members of the Oromocto Pioneers Square Dance Club, and she enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Cambridge-Narrows. In addition to Alton, her husband of over 68 years, Joan is survived by her children; sons Bruce (Christine) of New Glasgow, Brian (Ruth MacConnell) of Durham, NS, and David; daughter Penny Mallett (Lorie) of Saint John, brother Gary Schofield of Ottawa, chosen family Keith and Marlyn Penney, grandchildren Angela, Alison, Michael, William, Zachary, Aaron, Alana, Kyle, Tara, and Brandon, as well as 8 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Joan was pre-deceased by a sister, Margaret Schofield. Joan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Kings Way Care Centre for the love and care shown to Joan and her family during her 2 year stay with them. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). Due to the ongoing pandemic, a celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
