Joan Helen Wall

Joan Helen Wall, 91, of Saint John, New Brunswick passed away at her home on March 13, 2023. 

Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph Arthur and Verna Viola Wall. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Ruth McNamara and Barbara Mackin, and her nephew Mark McNamara. 

Our “Joanie” is survived by her nieces and nephews: Susan Scullion (David) of Portage, ME; Judy Murphy (David) of Quispamsis, NB; Marilyn McNamara of Victoria, BC; Michael McNamara of Vancouver, BC, Catherine Mackin of Moncton, NB; Philip Kevin Mackin (Rose Beaudoin) of Edmonton, AB; and Joseph Arthur (Cheryl) of Sault Ste Marie, ON; and many great nieces and nephews. Joan was especially close with her great niece Caley McNamara of Saint John, NB. 

Joan was a teacher throughout her career. She taught primarily at Champlain Heights in Saint John but was also employed by the Canadian Armed Forces as a teacher for four years in Lahr, Germany.  

Joan travelled the world extensively, spending years living in Europe. She was a talented photographer who entertained her family with photos from Kenyan safaris, the Vatican, and other far-flung places. She accompanied her sister Barbara and family on numerous adventures, including sailing through the Panama Canal and sipping wine in the Okanogan Valley, BC. She was an avid reader and in her retirement could be found most afternoons curled up with a good book. 

Joan was a life-long member of Saint Joachims parish in Saint John, where she regularly volunteered.  

Joan is a kind and generous person who is much loved by her family and community.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday March 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Saint Ann’s Catholic Church (135 Simpson Dr., Saint John, NB).  Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Donations to Romero House would be appreciated by the family.  Online condolences are available at:  www.fundyfuneralhome.com
