Joan Burgess Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Louise Burgess announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick on February 14, 2021.  Joan was born in Saint John, NB on July 15, 1941.  She was the daughter of the late Sadie Jarvis (Berry) and Edward Jarvis.  She is survived by her sisters:  Barb Brewster (Jarvis) and Theresa Gutknetch; her nieces and nephews:  Tina Warnock (Carl Tayes), Gloria Farren, and Terry Bernier; her great-nieces and great-nephews:  Patty Spavold (Nathan) and her godson Joseph Warnock (Chrissy).  She is predeceased by her parents, her loving partners:  Grace McDowell and Bernice Ellsworth; brothers:  Kenny Jarvis and Eddie Jarvis; her infant sister Jean Jarvis, her niece Kelly LeBreton and brother-in-law Alden Brewster.

Joan grew up in Saint John, NB and later moved to Ontario to live and work.  She lived in Mississauga, ON for many years with her partner Grace and more recently with her partner Bernice.  Joan and Bernice split their time between their trailer at the Connestoga Family Campground in Moorefield, ON and their home on the Centerline Road in Elmsdale, PEI.

The past 15 months she has resided in Saint John, NB with her niece Tina Warnock and Tina’s husband Carl.

Joan was a very strong, caring, private woman who thoroughly enjoyed her quiet summers at the trailer and trips to the casino on rainy days.  She also loved working on projects at the trailer and her home in PEI, lending a hand to others when needed, playing BINGO with her buddies in PEI, medium coffee with two creams from Tim’s and spending time with her dog Patch.

She will be deeply missed by her friends, the Ellsworth family from PEI, and relatives and friends from across Canada and Australia.  Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life of Joan Louise Burgess will take place at a future date in Palmer Road, PEI.  Interment of ashes at Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery, Palmer Road, PEI on the date of her celebration.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB E2J 2G3 (506-646-2424).

Donations in her memory can be made to the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery Fund (986 Palmer Road, St. Louis, PEI C0B 1Z0), or to a charity of your choice.
