The family of Jeannette Lorraine Woods are saddened to announce her passing on January 13th, 2026, at Kings Way LifeCare Alliance Centre. Her passing was peaceful; surrounded by her children and husband Joseph. She was 88 years old. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe, her children Natalie (Shane), Penny (Tom), Anthony (Patty), Michael (Barb), and Gary (Danie), 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren: her nieces, nephews and brother-in-law Phil. She was predeceased by her parents and sisters Edna (Elzie), Doreen (Doug), Ann-Marie, and her brother Patrick Gogan.
Jeanette was born in Saint John, NB, as the fourth child to Florence and William Gogan of Randolph. Jeannette graduated from Vocational School in 1956 trained as a hairdresser. She worked in her field until she met the love of her life, Joe Woods and married in 1961.
Jeannette was fun, giving and kind, and the centre of her family. Her home was the family gathering place for a cup of tea, a snack, and a chance to get caught up on all the family news. Jeannette always made sure her family was fed and happy and never missed an opportunity to cook a good meal, whether for a grandchild’s birthday, Christmas or Easter, and everyone was welcome to dinner. On milestone birthdays or special occasions, her speeches and stories were eagerly anticipated and always enjoyed.
Jeanette’s generosity and desire to spread joy was not limited to her immediate family. For several years the days leading up to Christmas would find her dressed as Santa Claus delivering presents to elderly aunts and uncles. She was also the first to contribute food to baby and wedding showers. Jeanette never missed an opportunity to send birthday or Christmas cards, and her address book was extensive.
She and Joe were avid road-trippers. They travelled extensively throughout Ontario, Quebec and the United States, with Florida being an extra special destination. Her road trip snacks were legendary if you were lucky enough to travel with her–and lucky enough to get some!
When she wasn’t travelling, Jeannette was an avid Bingo player at the Dennis Morris Community Centre. She never missed a Wednesday night with her sister Doreen. In her later years, she loved attending Seadogs games with Michael, Barb and Abigail.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care from the staff at Kings Way, they are incredibly kind and compassionate and truly appreciated at the end of Jeannette’s life.
To Joe, she was “sweetie,”
To her children, she was “Mom,”
To her grandchildren, she was “Nan,”
To her great grandchildren, she was “Nanny-the-great.”
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB. A Funeral Liturgy will be held in the Fundy Chapel on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
