Jean Higson, 81, of Saint John passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Born in Lancashire, England she was the only child of Norman and Agnes Jane Kershaw.
Jean attended the Revlon School of Beauty in Manchester, England. She began her career as Manager of Staff and Beauty for the Marks and Spencer company ensuring employees were well groomed; a practice she proudly carried forward throughout her entire life.
At a very young age, Jean, and her husband Allan, made the life changing decision to move to Canada. After settling into her new surroundings and nurturing her two boys into their middle school years, Jean began a decades long career in the retail clothing industry with Dreskin’s Ladies Wear. Through this experience Jean came to know, and make many lifelong friends, that made up the “very fabric of society” in Saint John and surrounding areas.
Jean enjoyed gardening, walking on the beach, spending time with family and friends and relished travelling to all corners of the world. As a true English lady, she always savoured her “cuppa” (tea) as one of life’s simple pleasures.
She is survived by her loving husband Allan, her two sons Peter (Karen) of Saint John and Robert (Susan) of Riverview; three grandchildren Kate, Ashley and Scott (Isabelle) as well as several nieces and nephews in Canada, New Zealand and the U.K.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service, with reception to follow, shall be held at the Fundy Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Jean and family want to express a heartfelt thank you for the exemplary care provided by the Extra-Mural team. As well, sincerest thanks to the staff and volunteers who demonstrated tremendous kindness and compassion throughout her stay at Bobby’s Hospice.
Jean’s final resting place shall be at the Cedar Hill-Greenwood Cemetery overlooking the beautiful Bay of Fundy, just as she did everyday from her home.
Remembrances made to Bobby's Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
