It is with shattered hearts that the family of James “Jamie” Wendell Van Tassel, announces his passing on June 7, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the young age of 52. Born on August 29, 1972, in Saint John, NB he was the beloved son of Dawn Rae and Greg Van Tassel.
Jamie will be loving remembered by his devoted wife Angela Van Tassel; mother Dawn Rae and step-father Ian Taylor; father Greg Van Tassel and step-mother Dale Van Tassel; step son Michael Doucette (Monika); sister Angela Shannon (Scott); step-sister Heather Campbell (Jeremy) and Tammy Johnson; step-brother Glen Johnson (Kelly); grandmother Hazel Van Tassel; father-in-law Gordon Lee; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; as well as his ever so loved cat Attia - everyone he cared so deeply for.
Jamie is predeceased by his grandmother Mary Rae and grandfather Don Van Tassel.
Jamie was an avid sailor, and he enjoyed sailing with his wife and friends any chance he could. When he was not sailing, he was out scuba diving. He taught many classes for both scuba diving and fire fighting. Jamie had a passion for sharing his knowledge about the things and hobbies he loved.
Jamie was a long-haul truck driver for many years before hanging up his hat to work at SubSea Global Solutions where he was a Centralized Procurement Manager, Retail Manager, and Workshop Manager. He had just recently received a medal from the province for 25 years of service with the Welsford Fire Department. This was a huge honour to Jamie as he loved his work and family with the Fire Department. Jamie also served in the military for 5 years from 1989-1994 as a Corporal.
Jamie was the one person you could always count on to be there for you when you needed him. “No matter when” “No matter what”. He lived a life full of passion, adventure, and love. A truly kind and generous social butterfly that drew so many people in. He will be dearly missed by so many.
