James "Jim" Savoy Obituary

On Friday, January 16, 2026, at 6:28am, MCpl James Anthony Savoy, beloved husband of Margaret Mary Savoy (nee Jesso), peacefully passed away at their home in Grand Bay Westfield. Born in Saint John, NB., on October 2, 1952, he was the son of the late Lawrence Emile and Dorothy Ida (nee Taylor) Savoy.

Jim was an extremely proud Canadian Armed Forces veteran with 20 years of service including a tour in Bosnia/Yugoslavia as a UN Peacekeeper and was always quick to share his service particulars with anyone he met. After his loyal service, he returned to the civilian workforce and worked until his retirement as a custodian for the Calgary Department of Education.

After retiring and moving home to NB, you could easily find him around the kitchen table enjoying any type of card game, beating Mum at cribbage and enjoying bingo at home on the radio or in person with friends and family. He had beautiful penmanship and a creative flair that often found its way out in his carpentry projects around the house.

Jim is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 45 years, Peggy Savoy, daughter Tara (Erin) Ferguson of Sarnia, Ontario, brother Randy Savoy of Saint John, beloved family member (dog) Zeus; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Special thanks to Lisa (Niece) for all her help and support in this trying time.

Aside from his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers Gordon, Frank, William and Walter Savoy, and sisters Patricia Cobb, Mary Savoy and Helen Salter.

Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Thursday. April 9th at 11am, where Jim will be laid to rest in the Field of Honour, followed by a Celebration of Life at the family home at 291 Inglewood Drive, Grand Bay - Westfield from 1-3 p.m.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Ridgewood Veterans Wing or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
