James "Jim" Parlee Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Donald Edward Parlee on September 1, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  Jim was born in Chester, NS, on April 15, 1942, to the late Ora and Marjorie (Carlson) Parlee and was the loving partner of 40 years to Sybil (Rennie) Parlee.

Jim was a vibrant and active man who lived life to the fullest. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he proudly cheered for the Maple Leafs, the Patriots, and the Blue Jays. He played hockey for many years with the Jolly Rogers, and also enjoyed playing softball and darts.

Music and dance brought Jim great joy—he was always ready for a good time and loved being surrounded by friends. Known for his fun-loving nature, dry sense of humor, and smile that could light up a room, Jim had a gift for making others laugh. He was quick to tease and often made-up little ditties about whatever was happening around him, always aiming to bring a smile.

Even as the years went on, Jim remained active and dedicated. He was a well-known member of the YMCA, where he stayed involved into his 70s. Being part of that community meant so much to him, and it was difficult when he had to step away.

Jim also had a sharp mind and a passion for business. He worked in real estate as a landlord for many years, and his interest in finance, investments, and the stock market carried through much of his life.

Above all, Jim cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Sybil; his son, Randy; his daughter, Angela (Thomas); his step-son, Christopher (Marta); seven grandchildren—Justin, Nick, Drew, Ashton, Seth, Roy, and Alicja; two great-grandchildren, Able and Coen; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Gail and Lillian, and his step-son Andrew.

Jim will be remembered as a happy man who embraced life wholeheartedly, left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and will be deeply missed.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where a Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.  For those who wish, memorial donations in Jim’s memory to Diabetes Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
