It is with great sadness that the family of James Joseph Hogan, loving husband of Mary Ann (McCarthy) Hogan, announce his passing on September 12, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Newcastle, NB on July 22, 1935, Jim was the son of the late Murdoch and Hilda (Chaisson) Hogan.
He is survived by his adored wife Mary Ann, his much-loved son Michael James Hogan (Martha) and treasured daughter Maura Ann McSheffery (Daniel), his beloved grandchildren Joseph McSheffery (Alexandra Dickinson), Michael McSheffery (Melyssa), and James Hogan, and his precious great-granddaughter Ruth Dickinson-McSheffery, as well as his dearly loved sister Mary Allsop and her son Christopher (Denise), brother-in law Herman McCarthy (Geraldine), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
After his family, Jim's greatest passions were music and service to others. Over many decades he played a joyful trumpet in the Lancaster Legion Band and St. Mary's Band, as well as a rousing fiddle and keyboard in various other bands. He worked for many years in the Engineering Department at NB Tel, after retirement joining the Telephone Pioneers. He was a devoted member and altar server at St. Ann's Catholic Church and helped found a council of the Knights of Columbus in Saint John East (Fr. Eugene O'Leary Council #6595), serving as a 3rd Degree Knight. He also volunteered with the Canadian Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, (506-646-2424). Following cremation, the family will receive relatives and friends at Fundy Funeral Home from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2025, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Alzheimer's Society; the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
