James Gordon Garnett surrendered his soul to God on April 1st, 2020. Jim was born in Saint John, NB, on May 18, 1951, to Douglas and Myrtle Garnett. Jimmy was a long-time employee of Woolco and traveled for work to different places throughout Canada. In his retirement, he loved to work with his hands and did beautiful carpentry work; he was also a collector of rare collectable spoons and loved the “hunt” for these rare gems. Jim would try his hand at anything, and he truly became a Jack of All Trades, Master of “Some”. His lifelong love of all things Toronto brought much good-hearted ribbing when his teams would play, and lose.
James is survived by his mother, Mitzi Garnett of Hampton; his three daughters, Jennifer, Jillian (Chad) Newcombe, and Jamie-Lee (Bill) Metcalf, all of Calgary, AB. Jim was also the big brother to his three sisters, Katherine (Mike) DeGrace of British Columbia, Tracy of Hampton, NB, and June (Shane) of Keswick Ridge, NB. Jim was also the pied piper of many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. No child could resist his Donald Duck impression and he never failed in making the kids laugh.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel (230 Westmorland Road) with a reception to follow. For those you are unable to attend you can view the funeral service at the following link https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/authorise.php?k=1628285487129408 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that everyone commit an act of kindness because you never know who may need one. Pay for a stranger’s coffee - Jim was a huge fan of his Tim Horton’s brew- or let someone go before you in your car or a line in a checkout counter. Please give that gift and think of Jimmy. A Bushel and a Peck….
