J. Patrick Oram Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John “Pat” Patrick Oram announce his passing at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the age of 72, following a brave battle with cancer.

Born in Saint John, NB on February 6, 1954, Pat was the second of four children of William and Bertha (Marsh) Oram, and a brother to Michael, Mary Jane, and Danny. He spent his early years on Chelsey Drive by the water, where the lookout now stands, before the family later moved to the north end and then Champlain Heights.

From a young age, Pat was most at home outdoors. He spent his time in the woods fishing, snaring rabbits, and building camps with friends, learning outdoor skills from his father, a Scout leader. That strong connection and appreciation to nature stayed with him throughout his life and he said it was where he felt closest to God.

Pat attended Simonds High School, graduating in 1974. While there, he played football, studied electrical, and made many close friendships, including with Steve Thomas, who became like a brother to him, later standing as his Best Man and godfather to his son. It was also during his school years that Pat first noticed Paulette Parsons, whom he would later meet and marry, building a strong and lasting partnership.

He went on to complete his Red Seal Journeyman Electrician certification in 1982 and furthered his training in Electrical Instrumentation. After working locally early on, Pat spent much of his career on industrial job sites across Canada and the United States. As an Electrical Foreman, he was respected for his work and known for taking the time to mentor younger workers and help them develop their skills.

In March 1986, God blessed Pat and Paulette with the gift of their son, Jonathan Patrick, who was the answer to their prayers. Pat took great pride in being a hands-on father and shared with Jonathan his love of the outdoors. They always had a close bond and together they spent time fishing, boating and making annual road trips exploring the Maritimes, and having fun adventures.

Pat was a man of few words who valued honesty, fairness, and doing things the right way. He stood by his beliefs, supported others when it mattered, and was known as a loyal and dependable friend. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, listening to music, relaxing on the deck and listening to the birds - the simple things in life that brought him peace.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He leaves behind the love of his life for the last 45 years, Paulette; his son Jonathan; sister Mary Jane (Michael) McGrath; mother-in-law Doreen Parsons; brothers-in-law Wayne Parsons and Christopher (Katherine) Parsons; sisters-in-law Donna (Glenn) Scott, Lynda (Fred) Johnston, Doreen Shippee, Roseanne Parsons and Brenda (Rob) Garnett; his chosen brothers Steve Thomas, Paul Tobias and Craig Miller, and his special girl Avery Miller, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pat was predeceased by his parents, brothers Michael and Danny, brothers-in-law Allister, Raymond, John Frances, and Kevin Parsons, and father-in-law Allister Parsons. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his wonderful Doctors, Dr. Groom and Dr. Hemings, as well as Elizabeth and the staff from Extra-Mural for their wonderful care of Pat.
