HERTA SAUERTEIG

(18.02.1925. -  14.05.2022)

It is with a heavy heart yet appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Herta Agathe Sauerteig announces her peaceful passing on Saturday May 14, 2022 at home.

Our mother was born in Westdorf (Sankt Michaelisdonn), Germany, in 1925, to Johannes and Catherina (Christiansen) Petersen.  She and husband Horst married in 1948 and emigrated to Canada in 1951.  She is survived by four children -  Susanne (Colin Campbell) of Lindsay, ON, Michael (Jennifer)of Fredericton ,Johannes (Debbie) of Barrie, ON, and Barbara (Jason Paikowsky) of Hamilton, ON.  Today the family includes 9 grandchildren -  Graeme (Monique), Kendra (Matthew), Jillian, Alexandra, Hannah, Eric (Katheryn), Katrina (Frank), Sam (Rachel), Jenna (Allan), and 15 great grandchildren and continues to grow.

Herta and Horst have called Saint John home since late-1963.  Once we kids were in our teens Herta returned to silversmithing/ jewelry making, a craft she had apprenticed in as a young woman in Germany.  Herta created numerous fine pieces of jewelry over the years, up to and including this last year.

Herta was pre-deceased by Horst, daughter Carola Sauerteig, her parents and sister Trude.  Our family would like to thank Drs. Williams, O’Brien and Jarratt, Extra-Mural services (Brandie, Cathy) and Brenda Morrison for the excellent and loving care they provided Herta.

In lieu of flowers, we would ask friends to make a donation to the Herta Sauerteig Scholarship at NBCC Foundation Inc., in support of jewelry students, or donors choice. At Herta’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service.
