Helen Barbara Patterson

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Helen Barbara Patterson, loving wife of the late Joseph William Patterson, which occurred on Sunday April 22, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Mom was born on March 16, 1932 in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathleen (Black) Kelly.  Mom is survived by her eight children, Joseph Patterson (Lykke) of Calgary, AB; John Patterson (Paula) of Saint John, NB; Mary Margaret Nicholls Wareham (Al) of Oshawa, ON; Anne McGuire (Mike) of Darlings Island, NB; Bruce Patterson (Shelley) of Public Landing, NB; Jane Nichols Black (Barrie) of Saint John, NB; Bridget Kirkpatrick (Doug) of Saint John, NB and Helen Marie Jollineau Barr (Derrick) of Saint John, NB; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Douglas Kelly, Honourable John R. "Jack" Kelly, Robert "Bobby" Kelly and her great-grandson Joseph Klose.

Mom was a vibrant soul, one who literally lit up a room whenever she entered.  She has been and will always be described as a bright light, a beautiful lady.  Mom always looked at the positive in people and always had that twinkle of mischief in her eye.  Mom's wealth was her family, her friends, her amazing smile. 

Mom was employed for a short time at the DQ, Dominion Store and then 23 years at Canadian Tire until her retirement.  During Mom's 30 years of retirement, she met many, many lifelong friends from all over Canada and from her winter home in Largo, Florida, where she enjoyed hours playing in the outdoor shuffle board league.  In the most recent years while residing at Ossekeag Place Apartments, Hampton, NB she enjoyed many a day playing crib with her dearest friend Doris Daley. 

Being a mother is the toughest job you'll ever love and Mom did it well.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital 4CNorth for their superior care in particular "Nurse Bridgette".

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Following cremation, visitation will be held on Friday April 27, 2018 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and 6:00 pm-8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in St. Augustine’s Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
