Harry Donald “Don” Hayman Obituary

With broken hearts, the family of Harry Donald “Don” Hayman announces his passing on Friday, February 20, 2026, surrounded by his family at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born on December 18, 1937, in Waughs River, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Don was the son of the late Harry and Cecila (MacPherson) Hayman. He was raised in Balmoral Falls, Nova Scotia, where he developed the strong work ethic and warm sense of humour that would define him throughout his life.

Sixty-three years ago, Don married the love of his life, Diane (nee MacDonald). Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family. Don’s quick wit and playful spirit brought joy to all who knew him.

In his younger years, Don was active in sports, playing high school basketball and always keeping busy. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He dedicated 30 years of service to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, where he worked as a supervisor and inspector. His service in this field led to him receiving a commemorative medal marking the 125th Anniversary of Confederation, awarded to honour persons who made a significant contribution to Canada. Following his retirement, Don embraced his passion for woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces of furniture that will be treasured by family and friends for years to come.

Don was also an excellent baker, well known for his delicious biscuits and pies. He enjoyed playing cards and darts, and he never passed up the chance to tackle a good crossword puzzle.

He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Diane; his son Alan (Lori); his daughters Kathy Hayman and Jeannie Hoyt (Patrick); his cherished granddaughters Brittany (Michael), Carissa (Christian), Darrah (Alex), Emily and Erin; and his great-grandchildren Jordyn, Reid, Finley, Daxton, and Ivy.

In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his brothers Carl, Lloyd, and Reginald, and his sisters Mildred Bowen, Elva Langille, and Marjorie MacIntosh.

Don is resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB, where visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. His funeral service will follow in the Fundy Chapel, with interment at Fernhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory may be towards the charity your choice.
