Harry Cooper Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of Harry Frederick Malcolm Cooper, beloved husband of Joan (Lacey) Cooper, announces his passing on October 14, 2025, in Saint John, NB. Born in Gagetown, NB, on February 18, 1940, he was the son of the late G. Foster and Olive (Armstrong) Cooper.

Harry was happiest outdoors, whether it was out hunting, tending to his farm chores, his garden, or puttering around fixing things. He took great pride in his little hobby farm, where the donkeys and a mule were as much a part of the family as anyone else. A true sports enthusiast at a young age, Harry carried his love of hockey and ball into being a true fan in his later years. He never missed a good game of ball or hockey, and you could likely count on him to offer some “expert commentary” from the recliner. In addition to his passion for sports, he found joy in playing cards, often surrounded by laughter, friendly competition, and good company!

Harry was proud of the career he had for over forty years with the Saint John Shipbuilding, known to us as the “Dry Dock”. As a mechanical engineer, he made many friendships and continued to share many stories of his working days.

Harry loved to reminisce, finding true joy in sharing stories from his life. Those who knew him will remember him best for his gift of storytelling and the heart or humour he brought to every tale. He also had an eye for “treasures,” especially old farm equipment and memorabilia. While others might have seen a field of rust, Harry saw history, and a good project waiting to happen.

Above all else, Harry was a loving father and grandfather. He would do anything for anyone, always generous with his time and heart, and nothing brought him greater joy than seeing his children and grandchildren arrive for a visit. His siblings were very important to him, family was his everything, and the love he gave us will always be his greatest legacy.

Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; son Terry (Valerie Allaby) Cooper; daughter Shelley (Bruce) Shillington; grandchildren Lacey, Johnny, and Jake; step-grandchildren Justin and Jessica; step-great-grandchildren Victoria, Jaxon, Zachary (Wheels), Sophia, Jocelyn, and Aria; brothers Burton (Joanne) Cooper and John (Patricia) Cooper; sisters Grace Hasson, Madeline Cooper, and Edna (Bill) Watson, Sister-in-law Audrey (Frank) Hand, brothers-in-law Lloyd Lacey and Blair  (Marsha) Lacey, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 10AM – 12PM followed by a Celebration of Life in the Fundy Chapel at 12PM. An interment will be held later that day. For those who wish, donations to Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Scott Bagnell for his passionate care. As well as the team of the Palliative Care Unit at Horizon Health- Saint John Regional Hospital.
