It is with heavy hearts that the family of Haamid Rasheed (née Arthur Criss) of Saint John, NB, announces his peaceful passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born in Kentville, NS, on September 26, 1948, he was the son of the late Darrell and Mary Criss. Rasheed was the eldest of three siblings and is lovingly remembered by his sister Jean Ross (Foster) and brother Mervin Criss (Theresa). He was predeceased by his daughter, Melanda Criss.
Rasheed is survived by his beloved Laurie Gardner, whose presence brought comfort and care in his final days. He also leaves behind his children: Maryam Rasheed, Kendra Broad (Aaron), Vashti Gardner (Ryan Cavan), and Sabra King (Alex), along with many cherished grandchildren, nieces, and nephews — all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Rasheed’s journey through life was one defined by self-determination from the start. He rarely followed the expected path. He did what felt right to him, took risks others wouldn’t dare, and refused to be bound by limitations. He was known for his courage to break from tradition and for unapologetically following the rhythm of his own drum. Though he may no longer be with us, Rasheed’s spirit, energy, and unwavering commitment to living life on his own terms will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers sent to the family, those who wish may make a donation to Romero House in Rasheed’s memory
