It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gordon (Gordie) Cunningham Tays, born June 28, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario. Gordie passed away unexpectedly at home on January 28, 2026.
Gordie spent the majority of his life in Saint John. A devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, he carried a lifelong love of the game and the thrill of every season. He was a proud member of the Labour Union, reflecting his commitment to fairness and supporting working people. Gordie was predeceased by his beloved son, Alec Tays, and by both of his parents, Glenna Tays and Gordon Tays. He was also preceded by Alec’s mother Pauline Morin. He faced life’s hardships with quiet resilience and a steady, compassionate heart.
He leaves behind his grandson William Tays and his brothers, Greg Tays (Natalie), Brad Tays (Nang), Scott Tays (Shannon), and Kent Tays (Abbie). As well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Gordie will be remembered as the oldest of the Tays brothers, a role he carried with pride within the family. He could often be found in the summer with family at the Tays family spot, “The Duck Pond.”
The family sincerely thanks friends, colleagues, and neighbors for the support and kindness extended during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424) on Tuesday, February 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fundy Funeral Home chapel, where we will remember the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. In lieu of flowers, donations to Autism Canada in Gordie’s memory are gratefully accepted.
Gordie will be remembered for his loyalty, his dry humour, quiet nature and his passion for baseball. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
