Some people leave quietly. Gloria would probably have preferred to leave with a perfectly timed sarcastic comment and one last eye roll.
On July 10, 2026, at the age of 76, she peacefully slipped away after a brief and unexpected illness. True to herself, she continued to show determination, humour, and just enough stubbornness to keep everyone guessing right to the end.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of many years, Roy “Ron” McLean, who was her whole world; her daughters, Wendy and Sharon, who inherited equal measures of resilience, humour, and the ability to speak their minds; her sons-in-law, Peter Thibodeau (Wendy) and Brent Kinney (Sharon); her grandchildren, Shelby (Alex), Alec (Erika), and Logan; her great-granddaughter, Kyra; her dearest friend and rock, Gloria Farren; and many family members and friends whose lives are brighter for having known her.
She also leaves behind a family wondering who is going to settle debates, tell them they’re doing something wrong, or somehow know where everything in the house belongs.
She appreciated the simple things: good company, family visits, laughter that arrived at exactly the wrong moment, and the comforting routines that make a house feel like home. She wasn’t interested in pretending life was perfect. She preferred it real and hilarious.
During her brief illness, she was cared for with tremendous compassion by the staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice. Our family will always be grateful for the kindness, dignity, and comfort they gave her during her final days.
We celebrate a life that mattered enormously to all of us and one that will continue to shape us in countless ways.
In her memory, hug your family a little longer, laugh when you can, forgive the small stuff, and don’t wait for the “right time” to tell someone you love them.
In keeping with Gloria’s wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be held at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
