The family of Gerard Gillis wish to announce his peaceful passing which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on November 16, 2022, with his family by his side. Born on December 26, 1955, in Felix Cove, NL, he was the son of the late Bryce and Veronica (Collier) Gillis. He was also predeceased by his brother Jerome.
Gerard is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 42 years, Nola (Vautour); son Marty (Marlene); daughter Natalie; grandchildren Kayla and Mitchell; step grandchildren Matthew (Sydney), Thomas, Jacob; step great grandson Derek; brothers Clifton (Geneva), Dan (Anne), John, Cossie (Susie); Tony (Joan), Bryce Jr; sisters Mary Ann, Philomena, Carol Ann, Monica Driscoll (Michael), along with many nieces and nephews.
Over the years, Gerard enjoyed travelling in his 1973 Mach 1 Mustang, motorcycling, boating, and trailering at Aldouane and Coles Island. A lifelong Automotive Technician, Gerard retired from Loch Lomond Mitsubishi in 2016. Blessed with a mechanical mind and great patience, if he couldn’t fix something, it was because it was no longer fixable. He was a man of few words, but they were usually loving, sarcastic and to the point. In some of the many trips taken after their retirement, Gerard and Nola drove to Western Canada and to the U.S., going as far south as California. In two adventurous trips to Europe, they discovered many locations where their ancestors hailed from.
Special thanks to Gerard’s healthcare team from Oncology, especially Dr. Gray, nurse Pam and Dr. Thompson. Extra Mural staff, Tiffany, Connie, Stephanie, Dr. Hemmings, and Dr. Wildish. Also Dr. Ugabi. Integrity Homes Services Jill and Christine. Father Ralph McRae, the staff of Bobby’s Hospice and all our family, friends, and neighbours for your loving support.
Donations in Gerard’s memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022, between the hours of 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Fundy Chapel on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
