It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of George Richard Tanzman Pottle which occurred at Kings Way Care Center on Thursday, November 18th, 2021. Born 1930, in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late George W. and Nellie (Barton) Pottle. George graduated from Vocational School in 1948 and began working at T. McAvity & Sons for 11 years. George was a teacher at Simonds High School for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed playing and coaching basketball, was a provincial basketball referee and a member of the N.B. Association of Approved Basketball Officials. George was a member of the Saint John Civilian Rifle Association, he belonged to the YMCA 21 Club and he was a former member of the Loch Lomond Villa.
George is survived by his loving and devoted wife Frances (Freeze/Lamb) of 24 years; sons Carl Pottle (Isabelle) of Gabriola Island, BC, Andrew Pottle (Wendy) of Quispamsis; daughters Gwen Calvin of Saint John, Janice Atwin (Frank) of Kingsclear, NB; step-children Alan Lamb of Quispamsis, Alison O’Hanley (Allie) of Quispamsis, Andrea Peacock (Brian) of Quispamsis and Annette Lamb of Saint John; grandchildren Philippe, Shawn, Lina, Jennifer, Amanda, Murray, Ben, Sam, Jack and Ella; great grandchildren Curtis, Mabel, Clarke, Jayden and Lincoln; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers Murray and Arthur and sister Leona.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) A Memorial Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday, November 24th at 2 p.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Due to COVID-19 health measures placed on indoor gatherings, all those 12 and older attending visitation and service will be required to wear masks, show proof of vaccination and a piece of government issued ID. Donations in memory of George may be made to the Kings Way Care Center Foundation, Canadian Red Cross or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
