It is with great sadness the family of George Thomas Lamont, husband of 62 years to Frances Gloria (London) Lamont, announces his unexpected passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Born May 31, 1937, in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Downie) Lamont.
George is survived by his wife Frances, his daughters Kathryn (late Joe) Richard, Lynn Lamont (Michael) McGinnis, Janet Lamont, son; Geordie Lamont (Ann Redfurn), his grandchildren and great grandchildren Jason Richard and his children Sophia and Avery, Kalyn (Kyle) Breen and their children Kyson and Kelton, Ben Lamont-McGinnis, Matthew (Danika) Lamont and their children Alexia and Thomas, Olivia Lamont (Johnny MacLean) and their children Prezleigh and Weylyn, Hilary Lamont and her son Kendrick. Also survived by his brother Ian Lamont.
He will also be remembered by his sisters and brothers in law Barb Lamont, Norma Gilliland, Jean Lamont, Donna (Sholly) Mills, Ann Foster (Gerry White), Janice (Gary) Ross, Edward (Donna) London, Gail (John) Ross, Wanda London (Rick Lawlor), Frederick London, Wayne London (Kathy Scovil), Don Geldart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Slyvia Hall, Colin Lamont, Alexia Hart, Wallace Lamont, Eric Lamont, Laureen Shonaman and Donald Lamont; brothers and sisters in law Harry Hall, Thomas Hart, Patsy and Vonnie Lamont, Ron Shonaman, Shirley Geldart, Fred Gilliland, Joyce London, Charlie and Patricia London, Doug Foster, son in law Joe Richard, as well as his father and mother in law Charles and Mae (Richard) London.
George worked at Woolworth’s as a baker in his younger years, then was employed with NB housing and the Canadian National Railway. George was a member of R.A.O.B for over 50 years, serving as secretary and treasurer.
After retiring, he was very active volunteering for community organizations and at St. Joseph’s Parish. He enjoyed spending summers at Douglas Lake with his family – swimming, playing cards, campfires and family dinners.
They had many interest and was a collector of “things”, hunting, fishing, bowling, listening to music, dancing, watching old movies, gardening and going to the beach with his family.
George had a larger-than-life personality, always smiling and always had a story to tell. He had a kind heart and was known to help anyone in need.
He was known as “Papa #1” to his six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He created a lot of lasting memories over the years. He touched many lives and will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020, from the hours of 3-7 p.m. at Fundy Funeral Home. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. Please note that physical distancing measures will be observed. Masks are strongly recommended.
