Gary Charles Tomilson

It is with broken hearts that the family of Gary Charles Tomilson of Grand Bay/Westfield, announces his passing on April 9, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Stanley, NB on June 28, 1956, Gary was the beloved son of the late Gordon and Cherry (Williams) Tomilson.

Gary began his career in explosives as a Powderman in 1977. He joined Debly Enterprises 18 years ago as a skilled Driller/Blaster and loved his job. He considered everyone at Debly's his second family, including his work-wife, Terry.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman and eagerly anticipated every upcoming season of fishing & hunting and 4-wheeling with friends & family. He loved the expression "Life is good" and it became his mantra- he genuinely appreciated each and every day. He was caring, patient, quick-witted and had a great sense of (usually sarcastic) humour. He loved his family, and his soulmate & wife, Cindy. Gary was so smart and could spend hours intricately designing, then building anything that came to mind. Gary was the family's go-to for questions and advice. He took pride in helping others and never considered anything unfixable.

He leaves behind his loving wife Cindy; children Mitchell Tomilson and Jodi Tomilson; step-children Joey Lavoie and Shauna Lavoie; grandchildren Tristan, Patrick, Cameron, Kloee and Pacee; step-grandchildren Sophie and Olive; great-grandchildren Reilly, Rhett, and Ryder ; plus, his brothers Michael Tomilson & Andrew Tomilson, sisters Brenda Ashley & Wendy Tomilson as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his brother James (Jimmy) Tomilson.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the Saint John Ambulance paramedics, nurses in SJRH’s emergency department, Dr. Samantha Gray from Oncology, Dr. Chris Mackin from Palliative Care and Patricia Pearson from Extra Mural NB for their exceptional compassion & kindness.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Visitation will take place on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 1 PM – 3 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 3 PM in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations can be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
