Garry John Obituary

It is with sadness but a sense of peace that we announce the passing of Garry William John, on July 31, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by those he loved.  He was born in Ontario on October 6, 1948, to the late Arthur and Rose (Morris) John and was the loving partner in life to the late David Mills.

Garry was a man who lived his life and lived it to the fullest, never shying away from trying new things.  In his younger years he enjoyed boxing, and he liked to learn how to do just about anything he could.  He was a jack of all trades, master of none, but was skilled in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work and had no trouble sharing his knowledge.  Together, David and Gary built a wonderful life.  They were the owners and operators of the iconic Phoenix Dinner Theatre, owned the Admiral Inn in Maine, were successful in real estate endeavours and Garry was an excellent chef so they owned a few take-out restaurants and a food truck, as well as many other things.  Garry’s life was about friends and friendship, food, cooking, fun and travel.  He was smart and kind and so incredibly easy to like.  Losing David was one of the hardest things that Garry ever went through so he surrounded himself with those he loved as much as he could.  He was a wonderful man who will be deeply missed.

Garry is survived by his 6 brothers, Frank (Audrey), Thomas (Cissy), Robert (Debbie), Morris (Karen), Wayne (Debbie), and Derrick; his sister, Lorraine (Mike) Gregory; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.  In addition to his parents and his partner, David, he was predeceased by his brothers, Dennis, Danny, David, Larry, and his sister, Rosanne.

Garry’s life was always about friendship and living life to the fullest, so he asked that in his obituary a special thanks is given to his friends for all the help and love from the guys in “The Mansion.”

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  In keeping with Garry’s wishes, cremation will take place.  A funeral service will be held on August 16, 2025, at 1pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.  For those who wish, memorial donations to the ALS Association or to Extra Mural would be appreciated.
